Irresponsibility
Today my sister and I were involved in a car accident. It was nothing major where anyone was hurt but big enough that the car’s back end now sports a huge dent.
It happened when my sister was reversing out of a car bay and another car reversed and hit us. It was not my sister’s fault, she looked to see a car go past, she waited for the car to go completely past her and then reversed, then all of a sudden we hear a big bang. We looked back and saw that the car who had just gone past had suddenly reversed into us. Immediatly I got out of the car and then woman in the other car got out and started yelling at me. I told her we were reversing first and she had gone past us already, why did she need to reverse her car. It turns out she had gone past a bay to park in, so she reversed to go back and get it, thus hitting our back end.
My sister wrote down her number plate, whilst the other lady attempted to park her car. As she parked her car she scratched the side of another car and knocked its side mirrors back. She was clearly not a good driver. Once she got out of her car she proceeded to walk away into the shopping center. I called out to her “excuse me, what are you gong to do about this?” She yelled back saying it was our fault and we would have to see our insurance company about it because she had nothing to do with it. I told her it is law to report an accident and as an Australian license holder she must give us her details, but she refused. Her son/grandson that was with her and aged about 7 turned around and told us to shut up and that she didn’t need to listen to us.
It is her responsibility and obligation to tell us her details and to sort this out, yet she didn’t seem to care. She already had dents all over her car on every possible panel, so this was obviously not the first time she had hit another car. I yelled out to her that we had her number plate and would be reporting it.
The worst thing is, that it wasn’t my sisters car. It was her friends (brand new) car which my sister was looking after for a few weeks whilst he is out of town for work. Thankfully we rang him up, sent him a photo (via sms) of the damage and he said not to worry about it. I am still angry though and wish this woman could be accountable for her mistakes and be made responsible.

God, what a terrible woman! I hope you took down the license plate of the other car too, so you can let them know who had caused the damage to their car. Hope everything gets sorted!

This women sounds awful. I bet she already had to swap numbers a thousand times and cannot afford it now and her premiums are too high.
But what got me was the kid, SEVEN! That’s awful behaviour for a child.

That’s mental! Most people don’t know how to drive. It puts me off. At least you got her plate so now you can report her.
And that poor kid is going to pick up his mother’s bad habits! Yelling at strangers is not entirely polite…
Update us with any news on what gets done! I’d love to see this reckless driver go down.

Ugh that sucks. Car accidents are bad enough, but having it happen to someone else’s car is 123456789x worse
