Message Boards
Lately I have been wanting to join a message board of quality but can’t seem to find one. I have one major message board that I visit regularly but I have been looking for something else to join. Most message boards I come across are ones owned by personal-website owners, and often tend to be ones about websites/graphics/coding which I find to be boring. Sure some of these message boards have other sections unrelated to websites, but I am looking for something totally different. I guess a place where not everyone owns a website or is involved in website design. I guess it is hard to explain but I am after something with more variety, and some place that doesn’t have internet drama such as “OmGz U stolez mii layout”. I also don’t want something that has some sort of “bonus” system where everyone makes dollars, diamonds, gems or points, because it makes everything a competition, and it generally annoys me. Yes I am fussy.
So if anyone has any suggestions for a message board that has one or more of the following things let me know.
- Isn’t a huge board with over 200 members.
- Has a variety of topics, and nothing to do with websites/graphics/coding.
- Has people around my age, maybe in the 15-30 year mark.
- Not too much e-drama (I know it’s everywhere).
- Doesn’t have some sort of “bonus” system.
And even if you don’t have a suggestion based on the listed reasons, tell me what message board(s) you do frequent, and why you like them/it so much.

Well I’m on Snark, so I’ll recommend that. There’s no bonus system (though once you become a trusted member, you get access to a ‘private’ forum - though no one actually really posts anything there), there’s 247 members (about 50 members who are REALLY active), and there’s one forum dedicted to online stuff, but heaps on non-online stuff.

Well, personally, I’m at Lavish. I love it there. Most of the people there are around 18-30 and they’re all beautifully sweet people. There’s a little e-drama from time to time, but not oodles of it. They don’t have a rewards system at current moment, but they used to and they’ll probably be reinstating it at some point I imagine. But we just use it for silly things like these little avatars and such. It’s not competitive at all.
It’s a generally friendly place though. I recommend you check it out.

I run a general music message board: http://everysongends.net/board and there is really no e-drama, about 30 members thus far, and almost no one owns a website. So if you like music, you might enjoy it!

Snark has a fair bit of Harry Potter crappage and web design/graphic talk, but it’s by far the most mature and least drama-ful board I’m on.
Stay away from Radiant MB, if the less than intelligent members don’t scare you off then the cult-like worship of Harry Potter will.
Disaster MB is a good board, if there is drama then it’s usually good drama mixed with intelligent arguments and very little is said about web design/graphic.

Thanks for all the suggestions, though no one seems to have anything I want…
Snark- already a member, got bored quickly, too much website talk, too many “cliques”
Lavish- sounds interesting I might join
EverySongEnds- sounds quite good, but I am not all that into music, howver I am still deciding whether to join.
Radiant MB - almost joined a few months back but already hear bad about it
Disaste MB- heard a lot about it, never really visited it yet. i might check it out
But does anyone know any totally different, like a neutral board without web designers/art designers etc.
I know I am very fussy

Also I have noticed in my stats, a lot of referrals coming from Radiant MB, but because I’m not a member I have no idea what they are talking about it

I’ve never seen anything that is completely neutral, you’ll have a long wait ahead of you to find a forum completely devoid of designers.
I found one link to your site posted by yourself in a thread asking for line-art tutorials (the member name is b0o).

Yeah I ended up signing up to all the boards to see what they were like, and found the thread where my site was mentioned (blee-designs). The only one that really appealed to out of the suggestions was Lavish, but I am waiting for account activation.
I know it will be hard to find a “neutral” board, especially since I am asking readers of my blog, and most readers own websites themselves. I think I need to be more specific and just search online for a board related to whatever I want to talk about. The board I frequent a lot has different sections like life, career, relationship, sex, education, creativity, technology, books etc but it is more for teenage-ish girls (15-25) which I feel I have outgrown a lot, thats why I wanted something similar to that, only for older people.

Maybe you would be interested in my new board. It just started out last week so it’s totally fresh and brand new. It started out because of the board Starshine.la dying and myself and a few other members wanted somewhere else to go, I volunteered and have made Rapture. It has just below 40 members (but we just opened on the 18th!) and is very active. Most of us used to have personal sites and were involved in that whole net scene, but we have all grown up now and don’t have much to do with that (although a few of us are getting back into it now we have an active board). Most of the members are 14-21 at the moment but as I said, we are just starting out and although we are all from one particular board at the moment, I would really like to make this board a little different and mainly for an older crowd (most of us are 18+) so it would be really great if you would consider joining because I’d love some new members, who are not from Starshine.la and I’d also really love some more opinions of people my age and older (I am 19). Thanks and sorry for posting on this old entry, I just stumbled accross your site and noticed the title.

Okay, honestly I have no idea what these people are talking about.
Radiant MB is full of friendly, active members who are always willing to help you out. We like to have our fun just like any other MB, so I don’t know what is so immature.
I suggest you join Radiant,
its great there.

I agree in all Bryan says, Radiant is my favourite MB.
I’ve joined Verve (which I find really immature) and I don’t think they include new members who hasn’t as much posts as them..
I’ve also joined Activate and Intrigue.. Activate is ridicolous ’cause they don’t seem to manage to get new members, Intrigue is pretty nice, but I like Radiant most.
Now it seems like Radiant is closed!? :/
But if it comes back, JOIN! I can’t wait to meet you!

I love Radiant, and I would recommend that, but if that doesn’t suit you, Rapture MB is also a place I reside.

Hi, I know it’s a bit late, but if you are still looking for a message board, why not try http://www.harmonyland.net ? It’s really nice and friendly. There are also older members which I think you would enjoy.

Please take a look at Radiant. We have like…… 0 drama, and even when drama occurs, it never lasts long. Everyone there is friendly and you feel a sort of intimate connection between the members, as if you have known each other forever. We have “money” but its no competition, unless you want to bid on something then you’ll need it.
We also have a LOT of topics, of course there is the odd graphic topic, but what can you expect? a lot of people have websites now a days. And its mostly in the Display forum where you display your works, and people give you C&C. There are only a couple of other topics such as help me, request something from the members, post your site, and asked to get hosted, but that is mostly it.
The age group is around 13-25. I don’t think we have anyone younger? i could be wrong…
And even though we have 1000 or more members, some of them are inactive, so they are never on, there are about 400 or 500 actual ACTIVE members that post and such.
So please check us out. Oh and in the response to the Harry Potter Cult thing, yes, a lot of us like harry potter, but others don’t. And anyways, its just another topic that can get you to know people.
And honestly, I really don’t see why people badmouth radiant? we have been open 2 years, we recently got hacked but we pulled through that, and has some of the post amazing people i have ever met. I remember joining MB’s a year ago and not being into it, and being sort of quiet, but Radiant opened me up, and I am glad it did. The members there are caring, nice, and care about the other members. We don’t really gang up on one another, or drive someone away. And we talk in a civilized fashion, just like the way I am writing now, there are the occasional: HEY WHAT’S UP?! but it’s nothing like Disaster.

Krista- I probably would have joined Harmony Land if it were not for the Harry Potter theme. It just gives me the impression it’s a message board for Harry Potter fans which is the opposite of what I am looking for.

You could always come to my boards. There are only 6 members right now. (We’re restarting again.) There are forums for graphics and coding, but there are also forums for debates, life, and other things. Most of the members are in their twenties. I think 2 are in their teens, but they’re very mature.

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article Message Boards, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
