Help? Why are they linking me?
This might seem like a weird question but I have been trying to work it out for weeks.
I keep getting referrals to my site from shoddy websites such as http://debt-settlement-agency.com, http://easypaydaymortgage.com, http://debt-consolidation-agency.net as well as many p0rn websites. How is this so? I have visited every site in question and can’t find a single link to my website (or hidden in their source code) at all except I still get many hits from them.
Then I thought maybe they are direct linking my images or something, resulting in a “hit”, but I don’t know how to work that out…does anyone know?
I think that is the reason my site is blocked on my work computer (it’s excuse was category “Sex” is filtered) yet many other sites I visit from work mention sex related topics all the time.
I am also worried about SEO, as I read an article that mentioned having “bad neighbourhood” sites linking you, which I would assume these websites are.
Bleh, I am really confused and want to stop getting these referrals and have my name cleared off these weird sites. Especially the p0rn ones!
Anyone got a clue?

I have no idea how that works o.O did you try searching the website with a searcher? Maybe that’d give you the link?

I find that really bizarre. Unless someone is visiting your site within frames of another site? Probably not even a possibility. Let us know if you find out how it’s happening!

I’ve had hits from those types of sites as well, and can only assume they’re spammy trackbacks and the like. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

I’ve got a few links for those kind of sites as well but have no idea why as there’s no link to my site anywhere! =o

That’s pretty strange, maybe they got your site from a search engine?

That’s weird. I got similar referrals as well, from sites I’ve never seen or heard of and when I searched the source code and their site I didn’t find a link to my site anywhere. I was quite confused as well - I have no idea how that works. Odd.
Thanks for your sweet comment, it made my day
You know, I have snapshots of my old layouts on my site ;o)
Good luck with the linking thing. I never did figure it out though :/

You are blocked at Curtin as well. You need to do something about that, although I’m not sure what.

I wondered this awhile back also, only once have I actually found a link to my site on the referral page. I kept watching and one or two of them indicated to me that they had come from searches made on those sites. So, it seems that the results are coming from those pages but that the sites themselves are somehow masking how the information is being displayed or retrieved. In that case we wouldn’t really see the real page of the referral, we would just see their intro page or whatever because of the masking/redirecting. Granted, I don’t have a way to test this and I haven’t read an explanation, but to me that just seems to be what’s happening. I hope that helps, or at least makes sense.

I have never had this problem. But my site is pretty new though.
Is it possible that the visitor coming from their site is some kind of bot? I can’t think of another reason.
