Dealing with it

Posted by Bobbi-lee - December 14th, 2007

In my previous post I asked how I could get my blog more personal. Now I sit here struggling to not be too personal.  Some of you may have seen my other post (which has now been deleted) where I probably went a bit emo on everyone talking about life and how depressing it can be and blah. I sat there and tried to write what I wanted to say (like now) but I am finding it hard to say it. So basically here it is nice and short.

On Saturday my fiance was involved in an incident which resulted in a blow to the back of his head. He ended up in hospital for almost a week with concussion and loss of short-term memory. He kept crying out to me every 5 minutes saying “Ow I feel like I have been hit in the head”, so then I’d tell him what had happened and then he would ask me again as soon as I finished as he couldn’t remember a thing.

This happened whilst we were in the middle of moving, so I had to call my co-worker to help me move the rest of the furniture ourselves with her van. I was so busy with work, deadlines, moving and running around doing everything. I was and am still so stressed out.

He is out of hospital now, under the Doctors instruction to rest and not work or drive for 3 months as he has swelling of the brain. Now more than ever I know I need to get my license. He is fine now physically though not at all mentally. He is the worst in the mornings when he wakes up in excrusiating pain. I feel totally useless.

So to cut the story short and not be too personal, I am quite emotional and putting a lot of things in life back into perspective. I am dealing with it slowly.

  1. I’m very sorry to hear about your fiance, Bobbi-lee. It must be so hard and you sound so stressed, but the important thing is that your fiance is ok, and that he continues to recover. Take everything one day at a time, slowly and I hope that things get better for you!

  3. Wow, the parallels in your finance’s story and mine are really weird. Two months ago I was in a car accident. I was life flighted to the hospital (unaware of what the hell was happening) I had to use sign language and broken speech while I was drifting in and out to tell the doctors my name and my mom’s phone number.

I had a fractured skull, concussion, and my brain was bruised. I was told that I would have two black eyes. I couldn’t remember much except what I was doing before the accident. This all happened right before finals and during the opening night of the play I had been working on. I was put on blood thinners so for three months (Jan or Feb now) I wouldn’t be able to do anything stressful.

I’m really sorry you and him are going through something so stressful. Remember, he really needs you right now. I know both of you are probably reassessing a lot about your own lives now. A lot of things are going to be put on hold.

I’ll pray for his speedy recovery. :)

  5. I did read your last post, and along with this one I sympathise. Can’t imagine it helps with the move and you not being able to drive. Take it easy and you’ll get there in the end. On the bright side you’ve just moved into a lovely new home, your fiancée will make a recovery and hopefully you’ll be able to drive at the end which is a very useful life skill. Take care, both of you!

  14. I’m really sorry about what happened to your fiance and I hope sincerely that he gets well soon. Things like that are hard to bare, but you have to hold on in there, for his sake and your own. Dealing with said things is a slow process and not something that should be rushed.

And don’t worry, we all are a bit emo on our blogs at times. ;)

  16. I’m sure that’s very hard to deal with. I hope that everything will work out OK and he’ll heal and be like he was before. You should take this opportunity to get your license, though.

If you’re scared, it’ll be worth it to spend the money and take lessons from a driving school…it’s expensive, but if you already have some experience, you’ll only need to take a few hours and they’ll teach you all the little stuff you need in order to pass.

  18. Gawd I hope he recovers quickly. That’s intense. At least it was only short-term though. And hopefully super-short-term.

I wouldn’t worry about how personal your blog is though. Afterall, it’s yours! All the best….
